The challenges posed by the implementation of inclusive education are one of the current tasks of professional activity for teachers, university lecturers, and education policy makers in the European Union and abroad. Despite the international community’s determined efforts to integrate, some countries still face difficulties and obstacles in obtaining quality education for the welfare state of children and young people in the country. This fact confirms that the need to implement inclusive education does not diminish the need for a systemic approach to tackling social exclusion caused by barriers to education. We’d like to inform you that from 2019 till 2021 a team of researchers from the Scientific Institute of Pedagogy of the Faculty of Education, Psychology and Art of the University of Latvia in cooperation with partners from Bulgaria, Cyprus and Belgium has implemented the project “MyHUB – a one-stop-shop on inclusion practices, tools, resources and methods for the pedagogical staff at formal and non-formal educational institutions” (604454-EPP-1-2018-1-LV-EPPKA3-IPI-SOC-IN). Free resources were prepared. We hope you find them useful.

The EERA Summer School 2022 will be held 11 – 15 July 2022 at the University of Porto, Portugal. The theme of EERSS 2022 is „Research design from scratch: Making sense of the whats, whos and hows of your investigation”.

The ERRA summer school  invites 60 – 70 doctoral students to apply to  five-day Summer School 11 – 15 July 2022 on the topic „Research design from scratch: Making sense of the whats, whos and hows of your investigation“.   The deadline for applications is from 2021 November 16 until 2022 January 31.

The EERA Summer School 2022 aims to support doctoral students in their efforts to develop research from scratch: from an idea to a solid project. This implies understanding the process of research design as a framework – supported by theory and epistemology – that guides methodological decisions, ensuring that the evidence collected really answers the research questions.  The Summer School will create spaces to share, discuss and debate, allowing emerging researchers to interact with each other and with more experienced researchers, taking their own ideas as the point of departure for collaborative joint learning regarding the practices, the problems and the challenges of research-in-the-making. Tutors will include members from the four research centers – CIIE, CIEd, CIDTDFF and CEAD – as well as international researchers who will share their expertise and experiences on a wide range of educational and social issues across all education sectors, from early years to higher education and adult education.

The dissertation is available at Vytautas Magnus University, Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania, and below  a  shot annotation  is presented.

The objective of the research: to determine and assess the use of learning analytics, as a metacognitive tool, for improving the contents of the study subject as well as the teaching and learning process in the technology enhanced learning environment. This shift revealed a completely new field of education research and an opportunity to reconsider how learning analytics could be useful for improving the contents of the study subject as well as improving the teaching and learning process in the technology enhanced learning environment. Metacognitive activities, developed in the technology-enhanced learning environment considering learning analytics, help lecturers with better reflection on the teaching and learning process, the contents of the study subject, and learners’ results, as well as lead to more effective decision-making, related to the improvement of the study subject. The research projects have revealed how learning analytics helped the lecturers in terms of understanding the learners’ behaviour during the teaching and learning process, making informed decisions, and improving the contents of the study subject, which leads to understanding of learning analytics as a deeper learning process.

The dissertation research reveals how school leaders construct professional identity in multiple educational interactions, what are the regularities and peculiarities of this process. The epistemology of interactive ethnography applied in the dissertation reveals the importance of the school head ‘s ability to be both an active and passive leader of the cultural group in education management. The passive side is significant in that it promotes the independent dynamics of the field of education management, ensures the fostering and continuity of the local culture. Active leadership, manifested in purposeful actions, enables to direct the processes of change, resistance to stereotypes, power and hierarchy transformation to rethinking local culture, organizing reflection and is significant in helping to maintain a harmonious and consistent process of professional identity construction through different educational interactions. experience of confrontations and allow the acquisition of new knowledge.

Congratulations to dr. Goda Stonkuvienė after successfully defending her doctoral dissertation Expression of Children’s Learning to Learn Ability in Preschool Education: Experiences of Teachers and Children (Scientific supervisor – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erika Masiliauskienė (Vilnius University, Siauliai Academy, Social Sciences, Education – S 007).  She has  acquired a doctoral degree in Social Science  Education.

The dissertation is available in the library  of Vilnius university and  on the VU website at: https://www.vu.lt/naujienos/ivykiu-kalendorius

The dissertation is available at:
https://is.vu.lt/pls/pub/ivykiai.ivykiai_prd?p_name=DB7160EACFF45A1A4B1A7D82DEBE5E18/STONKUVIENE%20Goda.pdf, and here a short presentation below.

In the doctoral dissertation, the learning to learn ability in childhood from the conceptual and praxiological points of view has been studied for the first time in Lithuania. The relevance of the learning to learn ability and the need to start developing it at the preschool age have been highlighted. Problematic aspects related to the use of the concept of learning to learn in Lithuanian language have been revealed. In the dissertation, the construct of the holistic concept of learning to learn has been theoretically grounded, the dynamism of this ability and the trajectory of its development in preschool education have been emphasized. Referring to the systematic approach, the components of the learning to learn ability, their features and essential preconditions have been discussed. During the empirical research, the methodology of qualitative research and hermeneutic phenomenology were followed. After the analysis of teachers’ and children’s experiences and preschool education programmes, the expression of the learning to learn ability in preschool education was revealed. The experiences of teachers highlighted the problematic nature of the concept of learning to learn. This is also reflected in the analysis of curricula, which shows an insufficient emphasis and lack of a systematic approach to the development of the learning to learn ability. In teachers’ experiences, the prerequisites supporting the development of the learning to learn ability have been identified: encouragement of setting the learning goal and activities, aspects of the environment that makes the development of the learning to learn ability meaningful, expression of children’s reflection and the roles of education participants. The limitations of the development of the learning to learn ability in the preschool institution and the need to increase the competence of teachers have also been revealed. In children’s experiences, the expression of their metacognition can be seen: self-perception as a learner, ability to design and reflect on their learning process. The children’s ability to freely choose learning activities and tools, learn individually and collaboratively and the need for help were highlighted. The dissertation presents a model of successful development of children’s learning to learn ability, which provides an opportunity to purposefully design and organize the development of this ability in the preschool institution.
