CEREPS Council Meeting in Spain
The meeting of the members of the International Council of Research in Physical Education and Sport – CEREPS (Conseil Européen de la Recherche en Éducation Physique et Sportive/The European Council of Research in Physical Education and School Sport) took place at the Faculty of Educational Sciences of the University of Sevilla, Spain, on 24-26 June 2024. prof. dr. Arūnas Emeljanovas, a member of the LERA Sport Education Network, LSU Prof., participated in the meeting and shared his insights into Lithuanian sport science. The CEREPS organisation regularly cooperates with national physical education and sport institutions and European physical education and youth organisations, and carries out research development at regional, national and European level. This year’s CEREPS Council meeting focused on the impact of physical activity on mental health.
It also discussed how to ensure emotional, psychological and social well-being during childhood, adolescence and into adulthood. The programme presented the vision and mission of CEREPS, and guest speakers (keynotes) gave presentations on these topics:
“What Works? Evidence-based physical activity guidelines and research on adolescent mental health”, based on data from Youth for Youth: Mental Health through Physical Activity (What works? Evidencebased guidance regarding physical activity and mental health in adolescents” – a study developed underpinned by Youth for Youth’s Mental Health through Physical Activity, Nadica Jovanovik, ENGSO Youth)

The CEREPS Council meeting also included three workshops on the following topics, which generated more in-depth discussions:

Conference “Opportunities and Innovations in Physical Education Classes”
4 June 2024 The Vilnius City Physical Education Teachers’ Methodological Group Council, together with Edu Vilnius, organised a conference “Opportunities and innovations in physical education lessons” at Trakai Voke Manor. More than 60 physical education teachers working in general education schools, (pro)gymnasiums and pre-schools attended the conference.
Teachers observed and analysed an open lesson by Kęstutis Bačkis, a physical education teacher at Vilnius Trakų Vokė Gymnasium, on “Applying Physical Activity in Outdoor Conditions”, during which the importance of developing speed and coordination was emphasised by applying the elements of discus throwing. Later, Kęstutis Bačkis (chairman of the Vilnius City Physical Education Teachers’ Methodological Group) shared his experience of using the assessment system in a lesson. The lecture “Physical capacity – the result of physical activity: recent results of Lithuanian schoolchildren” by Prof. Dr. Arūnas Emeljanovas from the Department of Physical and Social Education of the Lithuanian University of Sport was very popular.
Irutė Juršėnaitė, Chairperson of the Lithuanian Association of Teachers of Physical Education and Vice President of the Lithuanian Association of Teachers of Physical Education, presented the innovations in the subject of physical education for the period 2024-2025. The results of the Vilnius Gymnasium Games and the significant contribution of the teachers who prepared the teams were also welcomed at the conference. The teachers’ guided tour of Trakai Voke Manor and Park to close the conference broadened the teachers’ general competences and encouraged them to expand their cooperation for further implementation of significant ideas in the community of physical education teachers. Vilija Gerasimovičienė, PhD student, member of the Sports Education Network Committee, member of the Methodological Council of Preschool Physical Education Teachers of Vilnius City, also participated in the conference and provided insights and feedback.
Scientific-Practical Conference “100 Years of the Olympic Movement”
