Network Activities 2024

2024 Network Guidelines:
– Strengthen inter-institutional cooperation on the challenges of inclusive education and share good practices;
– Organise presentations on inclusive education by scholars/researchers/practitioners/education policy makers to network members (once every three months) and promote discussion/dialogue;
– Prepare for the LETA 2024 conference (to achieve accessibility), present papers in the Inclusive Education Network section;
– To share information on the activities of the network’s member institutions, to collaborate, to share research/articles and good practices;

On 18 April, the Committee of the Inclusive Education Network met:
associate professor Dr. Laima Tomėnienė (Vilnius University) was added to the Committee, and Juventa Mudėnienė (Vilnius College) was elected as the LETA sub-site coordinator. The committee members discussed the activities of the network, current issues, and decided to organise a presentation of the scientific study by Prof. Alvyra Galkienė (Vytautas Magnus University) and Prof. Ona Monkevičienė (Vytautas Magnus University) and a discussion with the members of the network on 22 May.

On 22 May, the research study “Successful Inclusive Education. The presentation of the “Modelling Sustainable Education Process” („Sėkmingas įtraukusis ugdymas. Tvaraus ugdymo proceso modeliavimas“) to the network members. The book was compiled by Alvyra Galkienė and Ona Monkevičienė, professors at the Academy of Education of Vytautas Magnus University.
The areas of research and pedagogical activity of Prof. Dr. Alvyra Galkienė: inclusive education pedagogy, its history and didactics; universal design for learning approach and its application in educational processes; special educational needs, learning difficulties and their overcoming. She has published individually and with co-authors more than 50 scientific articles, book chapters and methodological materials for teachers. She has led international research teams and co-authored 3 research studies that consistently address the expression and implementation of inclusive education and universal design for learning in different cultural contexts. She is actively involved in the Lithuanian education reform processes in modelling the directions of inclusive system implementation. 

Prof. Dr. Ona Monkevičienė’s main areas of research are: pedagogy and didactics, pedagogical strategies for children’s education, curriculum, teacher training, mentoring, educational reforms, developmental psychology, and early prevention of emotional and behavioural problems.Individually and with co-authors, she has published more than 70 scientific and more than 40 popular science articles.She is actively involved in the Lithuanian education reform processes in modelling the pre-school education system and promoting the development of inclusive education.
The study presents research conducted in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.The participants discussed and debated three factors for the sustainability of inclusive education:

1. Creating an emotionally safe educational environment.
2. Successful learning in a collaborative process, eliminating barriers to learning.

3. Modeling e-engagement, creating a barrier-free learning environment.

On 19 September, the Committee of the Inclusive Education Network met:
Committee members discussed the organisational arrangements for the LETA conference to be held on 17-18 October (planned presentations and speakers). More detailed information about the 2024 LETA Conference can be found on this website. Ideas for speakers and presentation at the next meeting with the Network members were discussed. Discussions were held on the processes involved in inclusive education, the challenges and the opportunities for overcoming them.
