Congratulations to dr. Rita Misiulienė  after successfully defending her doctoral dissertation Learning Analytics as Metacognitive Tool in  A Technology Enhanced Learning and Teaching Environment  (scientific supervisor – prof. dr. Airina Volungevičienė (Vytautas Magnus University,  social sciences, educology, S 007), She  has aquired  a doctoral degree in social sciences educology.

The dissertation is available at Vytautas Magnus University, Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania, and below  a short annotation is presented.

The objective of the research: to determine and assess the use of learning analytics, as a metacognitive tool, for improving the contents of the study subject as well as the teaching and learning process in the technology enhanced learning environment. This shift revealed a completely new field of education research and an opportunity to reconsider how learning analytics could be useful for improving the contents of the study subject as well as improving the teaching and learning process in the technology enhanced learning environment. Metacognitive activities, developed in the technology-enhanced learning environment considering learning analytics, help lecturers with better reflection on the teaching and learning process, the contents of the study subject, and learners’ results, as well as lead to more effective decision-making, related to the improvement of the study subject. The research projects have revealed how learning analytics helped the lecturers in terms of understanding the learners’ behaviour during the teaching and learning process, making informed decisions, and improving the contents of the study subject, which leads to understanding of learning analytics as a deeper learning process.
